Description
A Venetian cafe, a gondola the canal and a bridge, a perfect Venice landscape, even a bird cage. I can't remember exactly where this was in Venice but the colours begged to be painted. Tavolini, I believe means "Small Table" in Italian and with the crowded small streets, there are many. I had heard and seen many images of this wonderful ancient city but had no idea of how uniqe it really was until my first hour there.
It was late evening, misty and still, I wandered over the first small bridge and heard in the distance a beautiful voice sing in Italian gradually getting closer until out of the mist appeared a Gondola, its occupants aglow in candlelight being serenaded as they slowly disappeared again into the misty night. It's a scene I am still perplexed to somehow capture in a painting. I must go back to Italy some day.
