Description
This Venetian landscape at sunset with the hazy Church of San Giorgio Maggioret in the background is as timeless as Venice. The solitary gondolier rowing his gondola through the misty haze of the Lagoona of the Grand Canal toward Piazza San Marco (Saint Marks Square) is a scene which has also gone on for hundreds of years. After returning from Lido by water taxi I sat at the Grand Canal and watched tourists negotiating a better price with various gondoliers in front of the Doges Palace when I spotted this lonely gondola appearing out of the mist, I knew that I had my next painting subject.
