Description
Brig. General "Chuck" Yeager can arguably be called an "American Hero".
His sometimes contemptuous character is born of a determination to do the "Right Stuff" his way.
Officially recognized as the man who broke the sound barrier, his pilot skills are legendary. The above image is one of his favorite aircraft, the equally legendary
P51-D Mustang as it surely would have looked during those dark days of WWII.
"Glamorous Glenn" named after his wife "Glennis" was handed over to him Feb.11, 1944, by mid October he had officially become an "Ace" with 5 1/2 kills. He often said that "The secret to my success is that I always managed to live to fly another day"
I did this painting for an American Society of Aviation Artists show at the Dayton Air Force Museum of which I was a member, resulting in a print release of which 450 were hand signed by Chuck Yeager. His hand signed prints of which I still have a few, are long sold out.
