Artist's Description
The backwater canals of Venice reveal the true character of this famous city by the Adriatic Sea once a proud independent Republic which controlled much of the commerce from the far east to Europe in turn becoming rich and powerful in its time. Glimpses of former wealth can still be found in many of the smaller canals that crisscross the various districts of this interesting Italian landscape or should I say water scape. Buildings dating from the 13th to 18th century still harbor ornate and creative details within their fading facades which can only be truly appreciated by taking a gondola ride through these "streets" of Venice.
