Description
Lake Como in northern Itally is a popular resort and tourist area of Italy, it's glacial origin makes it one of the cleanest of Italian lakes. It is the third largest lake next to Lake Garda and Lake Maggiore, also in Northern Italy.
The lake boast some interesting villas like Comedia and Tragedia built by Pliny the Younger during the classical Roman period. Villa Carlotta across from Belagio was built for the Milanese Marquis Giorgio Clerici in 1690 and has an Italian Garden with fountains, steps and status. Pricess Marianne of Nassau bought villa La Chartreuse de Parme as a wedding present for her daughter Carlotta which is the name it now bears.
The lake has an extensive Ferry system servicing the many towns which is a much better way to get around unless you are a daredevil driver, as many of these mountain roads along the lake are an accident waiting to happen.
This scene from our holet room window in Belagio still beckons me to return each time I look at it.
