Description
Time was when most groceries where bought from the Farmer's Market. This acrylic painting is a typical American landscape in many towns until about 1950 when the larger grocery chains began dominating the field. I recall going to the market and bringing home fresh vegetables in baskets, eggs and fresh packed steaks that somehow seemed to taste better than much of today's fast food. Each Wednesday and Saturday local growers, butchers and crafts people would set up their wares from dawn to dusk weather permitting, offering wholesome food and hand made crafts. The market also became the social hub of a town where word spread as fast as any Internet of gossip of local events and happenings.
