Artist's Description
I spotted this old 1940's Ford truck just down the road some time ago and finally got around to paint it. It sat in this old barn for years and I always wondered what year it was. I reseached it (quite a feat before the internet) and found that Ford decided in 1940 to start styling their half ton trucks with elements of their cars of the day. This was the first update in almost 10 years, in part due to the war, the style stayed virtually the same until 1949. They were powered by by 161 cu in 60 hp flathead V8 with an optional 221 cu in 85 hp V8. I recall as a kid the unique smell of the cloth interior of our old Ford and trying to look down lines of the middle of the hood like a gun sight at the cars in front of us. It rode like a rock, bouncing all over the unpaved roads but we didn't care as on most of the trips we where going for a fun day to the beach.
