Description
A storm was brewing as I drove through the Tuscan landscape near Radda in Chianti, between Florence and Siena Italy. These names like Greve in Chianti and Castellina in Chianti etc. derive their name from their inclusion into the more recent redifined Chiant region, but the Tuscan area named Chianti dates back centuries originally comprising of various smaller entities. The many green hillside vineyards produce some of Italy's best wines. Wines labeled under the Chianti name must meet stringent regulations in order to use this brand some of which use a black rooster symbol which defines the Chianti Nero Classico brand. In painting this piece I wanted to show the contrast between the golden wheat fields and the grape vines and the dark storm clouds.
