Description
"You can never go back" is a popular saying which is true. However it is the nature of the human brain's complexity which allows us to look longingly to the past which in many people triggers lost memories and emotions that seem to have long disappeared.
Our most pleasant memories appear to be of early adulthood, a time when life was carefree and the best was yet to come. A time when money wasn't the focus and responsibility was something others had to deal with. Those called the baby boomers experienced this in a most unique way, benefiting from a world that suddenly exploded with technology few had dreamed of before.
Everything imaginable seemed suddenly attainable, that is, until the 1970's reared it's ugly head and showed us that there ain't no free ride. The Vietnam War, Hippies and the drug scene that followed created the "me" generation that still plagues us to this day with stock-market greed and callousness that few could imagine back then.
Life is always a work in progress and with today's rapid changes it does one's soul good to at least pause and enjoy for a moment that carefree person you where then and try to recapture and live your remaining days with that creative spirit that still lurks somewhere within us all.
Saturday Night at the Drive In, it was a right of passage if you grew up in the 19 50's & 1960's. Saturdays I would wash the car, go cruising for a while, then pick my girlfriend up and head for the A&W or Mc Donalds to hang till evening and finally head for the Drive In Movies. For those without money we would get a buddy to sneak them in in their trunks (The pink '57 Ford had a big one), once safely in and loaded with pop & popcorn, we waited for the little cartoon figure to announce "20 Minutes to Showtime, 10 Minutes to Showtime and finally "It's Show Time ". (The yellow Ford was mine). Too bad the world has changed so much, few kids today have the opportunity to enjoy this kind of simple life.
Most of the cars in this painting belonged to my various buddies.
