Description
Yellow Days is a painting of the southern French area of Cap 'd Antibes. While staying in the commune of Juan les Pins (in the distance of the image and made famous by Rudi Gernrich's topless bathing suite) I would often walk along the Mediterranean shoreline to Antibes, originally a Greek commune which in the nineteenth century became a retreat for wealthy Europeans.
During the mid twentieth century Pablo Picasso set up shop in the old castle Chateau Grimaldi for a time and painted the surrounding Mediterranean countryside. Antibes now hosts the Picasso Museum there. In july Antibes also hosts the Jazz a Juan, a well attended international jazz festival. The many beaches offer sunshine, rest and relaxation for those who prefer a slower lifestyle than nearby Cannes and Nice offer the Cote d'Azure crowd.
My inspiration is often from song titles, "Yellow Days" was a song recorded by Henry Mancini which seemed to fit this lazy hazy day scene perfectly.
