Wonderful Work Michael !!! I, with my impatient nature will some times use acrylic as a rough base and then top coat with oil for the blending values.... I as well was honoured to meet A.J. Casson of the group a few times and admire all their works ... you have joined the ranks for me.... V/F

Artist's Description

An Algoma Sunset in the rugget granite region north of Lake Superior, in a style of Canada's Group of Seven. When I was barely a teen, I had the fortune of taking art lessons from a local teacher who knew some of Canada's famous Group Of Seven. This let to a couple of occasions when A.Y.Jackson (one of the group's founders) would show up and give us advice and pointers. This piece is my direct acknowledgement and testament to the ground breaking style these pioneering artists created. Canada's Algoma Region is known for it's rugged landscapes and long evening sunsets. Artists like A.Y. Jackson and his fellow artists like Lawren Harris,J.H. McDonald, Varley etc. immortalized scenes like this and burned forever these images into the Canadian art culture. Their social meetings at Toronto's Arts & Letters Club in the early 1900's gave rise to what became The Group of Seven.
It dawned on me later that their painterly signature style was developed in part from the Art Nouveau movement...

Heritage Gallery, Laguna, CA I'm often told; "Your art is so real looking why not just take a photo"? Well yes, if I could not draw I probably would, however a photo rarely reflects the three dimensional world we experiences, how often have you been disappointed that your photograph did not turn out as you expected? Let me explain; in a three dimensional world we see things subjectively, photographs can only capture a split second of any scene which often disappoints and is the main reason...
