Artist's Description
While searching for something to paint, I came across this jewell and promptly took out my watercolours. Painted with acrylics in a watercolor style on heavy paper, I tried to capture the contrast between the silhouetted boards on the back wall and the wagon in order to give the painting depth. The subject of old wooden buildings is one of my favourite things to paint, the weathered wood grain with knots and rusty nail holes lends itself ideally to water color as it soaks in and allows the paper texture to add character. I had often driven by this old stately farm and found that the owner was very old and lived his remaining days in an institution, sadly about a month later some vandals set fire to the building and destroyed this wonderful old farm and all these neat pieces of history. I wish now that I had painted more images of this place.
