Artist's Description

Bellagio called the Pearl of Lake Como or Lago di Como by Italians, is located in northeast Italy and is built on a mountainside by this glacial lake. Stairways like this abound throughout the town. Bellagio is one of the stops of the various ferry boats that leave from the town of Como at the bottom end of the lake. The Romans viewed it as a stratigic important area and eventually created resorts in this area and a playground for the wealth of the time which now boasts some of Italy's best villas. I climbed what seemed a 100 stairways and marvelled how people lived on mountainsides. The perspective and contrast between the yellow walls and blue mediterranean sky just begged me to paint it.
