Description
People relaxing in the sunshine of Victoria Park near Laurier University in Brantford, Ontario in the shadow of the monument of Joseph Brant, the city's namesake. Born in the late 1700's, the city grew rapidly to become one of the early industrial centres of what was then upper Canada its dominance lasted until around WWII when a slow decline began as other parts of the province matured.
The most rapid decline came when a new highway system called the 401 opened killing many of the communities built on the original highway #2 system. I have painted some of the more interesting local spots but now struggle to find subjects as much of the city lacks visual beauty due to the poor foresight and lack of planning by our elected officials who failed or could not recognize the potential of our local environment could offer. I fear that this will only continue as the only vision seems to focus on budgets and not quality of life.
